How to Make a Wooden Christmas Tree Ornament
Here is a unique Christmas ornament that can be used on a tabletop, or with added string for hanging it can be hung on the tree. With these wooden rings that come in a variety of sizes, you just put them in order from largest to smallest. It’s actually fun and easy, and it’s a great project for kids, too! Let me show you how to make this DIY Wooden Christmas Tree Ornament.

Materials
1. wooden rings in varying sizes
2. wood glue
4. wooden stars
5. piece of twine or string for hanging as an ornament, if desired
6. OPTIONAL: Spray paint if you’d like to paint it when finished. I went with the natural look, but I think it would look cute painted as well!
Instructions
1. You are going to want to glue the rings going from largest to smallest, so it helps to lay them out that way first. You can make a taller tree, like I am making here, by doubling each size as you go. Using the wood glue, dab the glue around each ring and press firmly into place. You only need a little glue! Allow to dry. (There was actually an even larger ring in the package that I felt looked off, just so you know! You will have a few extras when done. One package made two large trees and one small.)
2. Next you will make the star by gluing the star to the top of a popsicle stick. (If you are making a smaller tree, you will have to break the popsicle stick about in half first.)
3. Once dried, you can just slide the popsicle stick into the top of the tree, leaving the star on top.
If you are making a tree just to put on a tabletop, you are done. If you’d like to make it as an ornament to hang on a tree, then you will need a piece of string or twine.
Adding String for Hanging to the DIY Wooden Christmas Tree Ornament
1. Take a piece of string and loop it.
2. Feed the two ends into the top of the tree, maintaining the loop and keeping the loop out on top.
3. While making sure the loop doesn’t get pulled in all the way, tie a knot. You will have to tie a few times to get a knot big enough. You want to be able to hang the tree from the loop with the knot keeping it from coming through the top.
How cute is that? Merry Christmas!

These are adorable! And they seem so simple to make. Do you think my 9 year old could handle this craft?

Thank you! I think that would be a great age for this. I’d recommend to make sure they lay out the rings in size order before gluing and to remember they only need a little glue:)
