DIY No Sew Round Throw Pillow

A trend in throw pillows are round pillows, some with pom poms all around or fringe or tassels. They are so cute! I had some round seagrass placemats with a fringe that I was not using anymore, and I decided to try to turn them into a pillow. It worked! Even better, no sewing was involved. Materials for the DIY No Sew Round Throw Pillow

  1. 2 round flexible placemats (ie. seagrass) I used these two fom West Elm.

The trick is finding some that are flexible and that have some give to be able to fill them up once they are glued together.

These placemats are about to turn into a pillow!

2. polyester fill

3. glue gun

Instructions for Making the DIY No Sew Round Throw Pillow

  1. Layer the two placemats on top of each other and line them up. Using hot glue, glue them together just partly to start, leaving a large opening to be able to stuff the filling in. You will need to press down on it for a minute while the glue dries to make it secure.
Glue part of the two placemats together.

2. Start grabbing and stuffing the polyester fill by the handful. Then you will continue to glue some more and stuff some more as you go. Each time that you add stuffing, push it out as far as you can to get it nice and full.

Start to stuff the opening with polyester fill.
Keep stuffing and gluing as you go around.

3. Don’t forget every time you glue a part of it, press it down firmly and hold it for a minute or so until it’s secure! Keep going until it feels stuffed to your liking, and then glue the last of it closed. That’s it!

Use hot glue to attach them together. No sewing involved!
Press down firmly to secure.

Hi Lizzy – I have a question about your fireplace tile paint. I have a gas fireplace with a blower and the tile around the opening gets very hot to the touch. My Sherman Williams person told me that the Emerald paint will peel or bubble because of the heat – even using the primer you recommended. Can you tell me if you have had any issues with the wear of the paint from heat now that you’ve had this done? Thank you! Renee

I would say listen to the paint professional. On our fireplace, the tiles don’t get hot. We even tested it at the highest setting, and the tiles were barely warm. Maybe they could recommend a heat resistant paint. I have never worked with that type of paint so can’t recommend one myself unfortunately. Thank you for asking this question! I’m going to update the post with a disclaimer to help others in a similar situation.
