Apple Picking
The fall season is beautiful here in Upstate New York, and we like to enjoy all it has to offer. We may have a lot of snow in the winter, but fall is when we shine 😉 My favorite fall activity hands down is apple picking. There are several apple orchards around us, and we love going as a family ever since our boys were very little.
Even before we had kids I enjoyed going as a couple or with friends, but I was so excited to start bringing our boys once they arrived. They loved picking lots of apples and taste testing, too.
Septembers and Octobers here are sometimes mild and warm or even hot like summer, and other times they are perfect fall like days that are cool and crisp. Even still there are times when it is very cold and maybe even with a little flurry. We’ve gone picking in all sorts of weather!
Now that they’re teenagers, we still go. Looking back at all of these pictures makes me glad we kept this tradition alive.
Time sure does fly!
Mom’s Apple Crisp
Whenever we go picking, we end up with lots. They always get used up though! When we bring all of our apples home, everyone always has requests for their favorite apple desserts. Mom’s Apple Crisp is always at the top of the list!
I usually double the recipe using a 10×15. We are a family of four, but some of us like big portions 😉 This also leaves us some leftovers, which is always nice!
Apple crisp is perfect served slightly warm with french vanilla iceceam. Yum! Scroll down for Mom’s Apple Crisp recipe.
