What You Need to Decoupage
1. planter/pot
I decided to go with this inexpensive plastic planter from Target in white. The nice smooth surface worked great for decoupaging, and I loved the simple look of it.
TIP: Make sure the pot you choose has a smooth surface for best results.
You can choose other types of planters, but avoid textured or bumpy surfaces.
2. napkins
Again, choose napkins that are smooth with no texture for this look and that are good quality. You can go with a pattern or solid colors. I chose these solid gold napkins to cut my hearts out of.

3. scissors
4. Mod Podge
I went with the matte finish.
5. foam brush
Instructions
How to Decoupage with Napkins
1. First step is getting the hearts made and ready. Take the napkin and fold it in half to cut several out at a time. I liked to make them all different sizes. It’s ok if they’re not all identical, that just adds to the character! After they are cut out, separate the layers so you can easily grab them when it’s time to stick them on the planter.
2. Once your hearts are ready, take your foam brush and paint on the Mod Podge onto a small section of the planter at a time. Smooth it out.
3. Next, take a napkin heart and stick it onto the mod podged section. Maybe do two or three per section at a time. Smooth them out gently with your finger. I chose to do a random pattern.
TIP: If a heart bunches up or tears while sticking it on, just rub it off before it dries completely and try another one.
4. Once you have one or a few at a time smoothed on, paint another layer carefully on top of the hearts.
TIP: Don’t forget that the mod podge dries clear!
5. Continue this process all around the planter until you are done!
TIP: Constantly pull back and look over the whole thing to see that everything looks smooth or if you need to fill in any gaps with more hearts.
6. Wait until it dries, add a plant and enjoy!
