Several years ago in my Etsy shop, this burlap rose wreath was a top seller. I made them in different colors and sizes, and they were actually fun to make!

With all the different colors of burlap available, the possibilities were, and still are, endless. Here are some of the different styles I had in my shop:

You can also make the roses using patterned ribbon!

What I like about these burlap roses is that there are no frayed edges! Through trial and error, I figured out an easy way to create them without any frayed edges showing. Let me show you how you can make them and the burlap rose wreath.

Materials

  1. straw wreath form (available in different sizes such as 12, 14, 16 and 18 inches at craft stores)
  2. burlap (1-2 yards, depending how many roses you’ll need/how large your wreath will be; I usually get my burlap at Hobby Lobby, they have a great selection of colors)
  3. jute yarn
  4. glue gun
  5. scissors

Making Burlap Roses

1. Cut the burlap into different sized strips (for different sized roses), approximately 4 inches wide.

    2. Dot with hot glue and fold down the frayed edges, like this.

    3. Watch the following video to see how you then roll this into a rose.

    4. Use hot glue to glue down the end to the back of the rose.

    Wrapping the Wreath

    1. Tie the jute yarn in a knot around the wreath. You may want to ball up the yarn first if it is to big to work with as is.

      2. Keep wrapping, being sure to overlap here and there as you go around (as seen in the picture above).

      3. When it is complete, untie the original knot. Then take both ends and make a new final knot. Trim off the excess. This knot will later be covered by the roses.

      Making Jute Yarn Balls

Simply continue to wrap the yarn into a ball and glue the end piece down.

      Assembling the Wreath

      1. Vary the colors, sizes and yarn balls (if using them) throughout.

      2. As you use hot glue on each piece, remember to hold them down until secure for around 10 seconds.

      3. When attaching around the edges of the wreath, make sure each one lines up with the one before.

Now you have a beautiful wreath for your home!
