How to Decorate the Staircase for Christmas
Well it is officially December, and a lot of us seem to have our Christmas decorating in full swing. One of the main places in a home to deck out for the holidays is the staircase. I’ve done mine with a simple faux cedar garland, fairy lights, black ribbon and a cluster of bells. In detail, here’s what I’ve done when decorating the staircase for Christmas!

The Garland
I found this fabulous real-looking garland from Hobby Lobby. At the time of writing this blog post, it is no longer available online. However, here are some similar options:
I decided instead of wrapping the garland around the banister, I wanted to achieve more of this up and down look. Because of this I needed a way to attach the garland. Zipties turned out to be the perfect solution!
I used these 12 inch zip ties, and I also chose black to blend in with the banister.
Even though the zipties were hardly noticeable, I added this black ribbon over the zipties as well.
The next step was adding some lights. I wanted something delicate and battery operated so not to have any wires. Fairy lights were the best solution! I was excited this year when I found for the first time fairy lights with GREEN wire. They become invisible against the green garland, a game changer!
Pictured above is what I used, purchased at Walmart. It is not available online, but here are some similar ones. Be sure to note the length and if they’re twinkling or colored, depending on what will work for you!
The battery boxes are hiding here and there and are also black which helps them blend in.
The Bells
This year using bells in Christmas decor is so popular, and I can see why! I found the cutest bells on Amazon. With one order of bells, I was able to make a cluster to hang on the banister as well as string up some to hang across the mantel on the fireplace.
To create the cluster of bells on the stairs, I knotted bells individually onto different lengths of jute yarn. Then I used a single strand of it to knot it up on top and then tie it onto the banister. I love it!
